Undergraduate Research Opportunities in the FBIp Lab
The lab consists of both undergraduate and graduate students. These students have the opportunity to be involved in all stages of the research project, from conception, to design, to data collection and analysis. More advanced students conduct their own research projects and present the data at local and national conferences. The lab has weekly meetings and conducts numerous research studies throughout the academic year.
Every Fall and Spring semester we may have open positions in the lab for undergraduates who are interested in gaining research experience. If you would like to be considered for one of these positions, please complete ourlab application form.
FBIp Lab FAQs
Below we are some frequently asked questions and answers about the lab:
What will I learn? By being a part of this lab, you will gain some valuable research experience. You will be "doing" psychology, rather than merely reading about it. You may learn about interacting with research participants, study design, and even some data analysis. If you are interested in attending graduate school, the type of research experience you gain in this lab will be invaluable.
What type of experience do I need? In terms of experience, prior knowledge about psychology is always helpful. We are primarily looking for people who are interested in the topic and would like to learn more about research. Knowledge of MS word, Excel, and SPSS is helpful, but not necessary.
What will I be doing? You will have the opportunity to take part in a wide range of activities, including: learning about experimental design and development, providing feedback about materials, running and conducting experimental session, learning basics about data entry and analysis, finding out about the latest research findings, and becoming familiar with the affect and motivation literature.
What is the time commitment? The amount of time you spend in the lab depends on how many credits you sign up for. Typically we are looking for people who would like to sign up for 2 credits and be a part of the lab for 2 semesters.
